Wendy Arkle

Assistant Partnership Secretary

I worked with Michael Denny on the formation of our first fund, Northern Investors, in 1984.  Just prior to the flotation of Northern Investors Company I became Assistant Company Secretary.  Having spent some time working part-time, I returned to full-time work when my children were both at school which coincided with launching our first venture capital trust, Northern Venture Trust, in 1995.

My role was very diverse in those days as it also included, amongst other things, managing our Newcastle office and setting up offices in other parts of the country.  Now that our shareholder base has grown to in excess of 14,000 my time is now mainly focussed on all things company secretarial which includes ensuring we comply with keeping Companies House up-to-date, liaising with our non-executive directors and the first point of contact for our shareholders.

It is always a pleasure to meet our investors but I get the most reward when I am able find a solution to difficult query which they’ve been unable to resolve themselves.

Away from the office I enjoy swimming, Pilates and travel.

“I still think it is amazing when I talk through the history of our business with new members of staff; the struggle to raise the first £1m. I could never have imagined how our mighty acorn would grow!”
